Where did Kombucha originate?

While there are many stories about the genesis of Kombucha, it is believed to have originated in East Asia around 221 BC. It is said that Emperor Qin Shi was the first to make and drink Kombucha. By the time of the Cultural Revolution in China in the 1960s, Kombucha was found in all Chinese homes.
